General Information

PC-DCE/PC-DFS for Windows
Version 5.1.6

Release Applicability

This version can be installed over any previous version of PC-DCE.

New Features in This Release

No new features were added in this release.

Problems Fixed in This Release

  1. Fixed a compatibility issue with the latest service packs from Microsoft. A new security policy on MS Windows 2000 Server SP4, Windows XP SP2, and Windows Server 2003 SP1 prevents users from creating global objects by default. This policy prevented PC-DCE from creating the per-user CDS cache because that was a global object. The per-user CDS cache is now a local object.

  2. The function pthread_create() leaked handles in PC-DCE 5.1.5 due to a reorganization of the code that set thread priorities. The leak has been fixed.

  3. dce_config.exe failed to configure a DCE Security Server in PC-DCE 5.1.5. The cause was a problem with the way dcecp was used during the creation of certain CDS directories. This problem has been fixed.

  4. Updated stubbase.h in the PC-DCE ADK to properly handle the case where the developer has included it in a C source file, and has set the compiler to compile that C file using C++ exceptions, but has not defined the macro USE_CPP_EXCEPTIONS.

Applying PC-DCE 5.1.6

To upgrade to PC-DCE 5.1.6:

  1. Download PC-DCE 5.1.6. (See "Obtaining PC-DCE 5.1.6" above for download links.)

  2. Unzip the files and then run Setup. You are given the choice to Modify, Repair, or Remove kits. Choose Repair. Your present installation will be updated to the new version.

  3. Reboot the machine. The update does not take effect until the machine has been rebooted.

Note: If you are updating a host running the Security or CDS Server as a replica, it may take a minute or two for the daemons to resynchronize themselves with the master. Initially, the PC-DCE Service Panel may say the daemons are unavailable. After about one minute (or possibly longer for larger cells), click Refresh and the display will show that the servers are running normally.
