Configuring Your System as a Global Directory Agent

The Global Directory Agent (GDA) is a daemon that provides a link between CDS and the Global Directory Service (GDS).

When a DCE client requests the lookup of a CDS name from another cell, the CDS server refers the DCE client to the GDA. The GDA examines the requested cell name to determine its type (X.500 or DNS BIND) and calls the appropriate name service to look up CDS server address in the requested cell. When the name is resolved, the GDA refers the DCE client to the CDS server in the requested cell.

To configure this component, your system must also be a CDS server.

If you have begun a new cell configuration and have configured a Security server on another system and are now configuring a CDS server on this system, you are configuring a split server.

For more information, see Configuring a Split Server.
